the light fades
twilight approaches
but is evening that bad

there is still
time
to midnight

but life is
cyclic
isn't it

but dawn will
come
wouldn't it

the sky was
slate grey
rain was light
but
persistent
the skies were
dark
long before
night fell
long before
the sun set
that was today
literally

but we all
have had
days like that
metaphorically
figuratively
those days
when  all is
grey
when the light
fails
when the sun sets
on our
souls

but both
literally
metaphorically
figuratively
we know
that a better
day
is coming
life is cyclic
the calm
which must
and usually does
follow the  storm

snow
nature's facade
concealing what is
below
but with
experience
we know what
is below
even if not seen
we still can know

in life
can we see
what can't be
seen
can we know
what can't be
known
let your experience
answer the
question?

i find it
hysterical
what rhymes
with empirical

one is
lyrical
not exactly
empirical

another is satirical
now that's hysterical
two words enter a bar
but what's the punch line

but the best is
miracle empirical
they only make sense
 in the ultimate oxymoron

world events invade
my private space
the peace within
the places i hide
in my inner being
my heart
my soul
my mind

but i am helpless
to change
to effect
the events
that swirl
in the world
around me
but.....

if i can't change what occurs
what must occur
i can, i must change
how i view it
how i react to it
and with time, with contemplation
peace can return within

my feather friends
which i love watching
have migrated
 south
for the winter

but....
i know from
experience
they will return
with spring

nature is
cyclical
so is the
human
condition

but we
as humans
fight against
even curse it
the cycles

but cycles are
whimsical
the can spiral
up
or down

we love the
upward
but rebel
against
the downward

but we must
learn to
take both
in stride
and survive

in nature
storms come
usually
with warnings
with winds
or predicted

but life
that's different
storms tend
to come
without fanfare
without warning

no time to
prepare
the only choice
ride it out
seek the calm
from within

the cold of fall
is upon us
physically
i feel
frail

but as
the mind
the spirit
have ignored
the flesh

i have
finally
for the moment
found a place of
peace

short
or longer term
i can't say
but in the mean time
i will enjoy it
